It’s Taco Tuesday! Gluten Free Taco Seasoning Recipe
Those little packets of taco seasoning mix that you find at the grocery store often contain gluten, soy, artificial ingredients and fillers. Here’s a gluten free taco seasoning recipe that is also top 8 allergy free and free of artificial stuff. Making taco seasoning from scratch ensures that your spice mix is free of what you’re allergic to, and is less expensive than buying individual packets. Not to mention that you will always have some on hand. Just make sure that the spices you use are free of whatever you’re allergic to. (Read this post regarding contaminated cumin if you have a peanut allergy!)
This is spicy but not too spicy for kids, so double the amount of cayenne pepper if you really want that kick. I make this and use a small funnel to put it into a glass spice jar. It will fill up a 1.7 ounce jar, which is enough for about four to six pounds of meat, depending on how much you use. I use about 2 tablespoons of this mix per pound of ground meat. For those 20 ounce ground turkey packages, I use 2.5 tablespoons of seasoning. Brown the meat first, then add the taco seasoning mix, a little water (about 1/3 cup), and mix it all up to distribute the spices evenly. (I finely shred a half a carrot and add it to the meat towards the end of the browning process to sneak a little veggies into my kids’ diet – shhhh!) Happy Taco Tuesday!
